Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior representative said the incident made him without words and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
